Organic Matter is a new collection of my original compositions for jazz organ quartet. This recording features Hammond B3 wizard Greg Hatza, guitar genius Mike Pavone, and groove master Marty Morrison on drums (what was for a time the line-up of the Greg Hatza ORGANization). A variety of grooves and styles are represented on the album: the funky title cut, the straight-ahead and latin-inflected burner "Rawer Than Dinner," the blues shuffle "Soloman's House Of Freaks," the gospel-tinged ballad "Cradle Rocked," the modernistic take on Rhythm Changes "Rhythm Schtick," the soul-jazz vibe of "Brain's," the Larry Young/Woody Shaw-inspired "Young One," and the rollicking country-funk flavor of the closing track "Fish (This Big)." It was released October 1 on Union Records. The CD is packaged in a full-color digipak. Total run-time is 55 minutes.
