Caesar Augustus was the emperor of Rome that according to Christ's birth story in Luke Chapter 2 called for a sensus to be taken in Israel. Becuase of this, Joseph and Mary traveled to Bethleham, the birthplace of Jesus in the manger. The story would not have happened this way in in this city if it was not for Augustus. This denarius was minted during the very early years of Christ's childhood. Reference: RIC I 207, BMCRE 533
